Musicians and bands collaborating with well-known brands is nothing new – brand collaborations with perfume, alcohol and clothing lines are like a right of passage in the music world. But lately there have been a few well-known artists who have decided to venture a little left of field with their brand partnerships. From Crocs and card games, to cookbook and children’s books, the following artists are proving brand collabs can be fun, weird and unexpected.

Strangest and most unexpected brand collaborations from 2018:

Post Malone and Crocs

Posty Croc Brand Collab

What happens when American rapper Post Malone teams up with iconic shoe brand Crocs?

The Posty Croc: a Croc speckled with baby devil face motifs with six special-edition Jibbitz™ (those button things you can stick into the holes of the Croc), including the “Posty Co™” logo and Post’s “Stay Away” tattoo.

The unexpected and wonderfully wacky collab was part of Crocs’ “Come As You Are” campaign and were released on November 1 this year. Selling for $59.99 a pair, these special edition foam clogs sold out. However, Post Malone and Crocs have promised more Posty Crocs designs to come.

Jack White and Cards Against Humanity

Jack White Brand Collaboration

“When Jack White performed at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on Nov. 19, 2018, he surprised fans with _________.”

What better way to promote your tour than a brand collab with the self described “party game for horrible people”?

Jack White did exactly that with a special Cards Against Humanity themed poster for his concert in Chicago this November. The fill-in-the-blank poster comes with six white response cards with answers that include:

  • A quiet, poignant acoustic guitar ballad.
  • Jack White’s collection of taxidermied animal heads.
  • Jack White’s testosterone-fueled dementia.
  • Jack White’s mom coming on stage and dancing.
  • A bizarre partnership with Cards Against Humanity.
  • Jack White.

Along with a duplicate regulation size fill-in-the-blank black card, these response cards can be added to a standard Cards Against Humanity game box.

Peking Duk and BMG

Peking Duk Book

Writing songs can’t be that different to writing a children’s book, can it? Reuben Styles and Adam Hyde of Peking Duk must not think so as they release their literary debut Dj Duks: “a cautionary tale of 2 little ducks named Adam and Roobs with big dreams of fame, fortune and #millionfollowerstatus on Quakker”. The duo are collaborating with their music publisher BMG to produce and distribute the book which is available in limited edition “Banger Bundles” which includes a personally signed book along  with Adam and Reuben’s rubber duck set, headphones, key-ring and stickers, and “Fuego Bundles” which includes the book and rubber duck set.

Modestep and Secret Compass

Modestep

Electronic rock band from London, Modestep performed an “Ice Cold Gig” on a net suspended between two mountains in New Zealand in partnership with adventure travel company Secret Compass and Jagermeister in November last year. Ice Cold Gigs is a collab between the travel company and Jagermeister alongside music artists that stages concerts in freezing locations to advertise how Jagermeister is best served at -18 degrees celsius.

The Marilyn Manson Dildo

Marilyn Manson Dildo

Marilyn Manson celebrated Halloween in the most Marilyn Manson way possible this year – by releasing a limited edition double cross dildo featuring his face on the pointy end.

The 8-inch dildo will set you back $125 and comes with a handy suction-cup base. The product description also states “please note that the paint on Marilyn Manson’s face is environmentally safe. May fade with multiple uses.” 🤔

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart

From Crook to Cook

Following the (unexpected) success of their Emmy-nominated television series ‘Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party’, Snoop Dogg has released his first cookbook – ‘From Crook to Cook’. We love the title of this cookbook because it works for both Stewart and Mr Dogg as both of them have been convicted and served time!

The book features some tasty sounding dishes including Ludacrispy Duck, Notorious P.I.G, Millionaire Bacon, Bow Wow Choc Chip Cookies and more. But before you ask – none of the recipes include cannabis, not even the brownies!

Suprisingly, Snoop isn’t the first rapper to release a cookbook – he is joining the ranks of 2 Chainz and Coolio with his book release.
