Canadian Country Music Awards goggle-boxed for your reading and viewing pleasure
Not sure if it’s just me, but Gogglebox is solid tv watching fun, so I wanted to share my thoughts in a similar way while live streaming the CCMA Awards today. Before you roll your eyes, there were some pretty impressive and outstanding moments.
Lets get to some CCMA Awards red carpet moments to kick it off
The first O-M-G moment was when a casual glance at the screen turned into an intense glare when I thought Loki was in attendance, ‘was Tom Hiddleston presenting an award?’ No, it was James Barker Band’s Bobby Martin. I can’t be the only one to notice the similarity right?
It was a serious double take moment, I mean come on!?
I picked my jaw back up and shortly after learned Meghan Patrick’s life is not so different to mine. The bombshell confessed her life consisted of mostly dry shampoo and grilled cheese. Craving one now actually…
Did you know Tom Hiddleston isn’t the only famous country doppelganger in Canadian country music? Siblings Jenna and Stuart Walker, better known as country duo the Reklaws, give Ken and Barbie a pretty decent run for their money too! Seriously stunning, what a gene pool!
Speaking of looking good, Jenna wasn’t the only one pretty in pink, Lindsay Ell was rocking the neon again (she rocked a green neon dress a few months ago at the ACM Awards). But she did share a spray tanning mishap with her insta followers earlier in the week when the tanning booth door literally hit her on the way out. Not to despair though, she solved the mishap by covering it with her ponytail for the awards! There’s some quick thinking I can get behind.
While still talking CCMA red carpet, I noticed in the crowd not one, not two, but five leopard print outfits! It’s not just an Australian thing at the moment, the kitty print is making it big all round the world.
If you feel the need to recap your own favourite CCMA red carpet moments you too can watch the full video below thanks to ET Canada.
My favourite CCMA Awards ceremony moments
Can I just start out by saying Billy Ray Cyrus and Dallas Smith hosting is a hilarious combo.
Dallas Smith absolutely nailed his performances, kicking off the night with his latest single Drop Top. He later kicked into a collab with Dean Brody and Mackenzie Porter on Friends don’t let Friends Drink Alone. Getting personal when he accepted his MNP Male Artist of the Year award and thanking his mum for kicking cancer’s ass this year, as well as for making him who he is today. This was Dallas Smith’s night, also taking home the very first CCMA award for Entertainer of the Year!
We can’t wait to see him in Brisbane later this year at Hometown Fest featuring the likes of Clay Walker, Meghan Patrick, and Walker Hayes.
When The Washboard Union accepted their CCMA award for Group or Duo of the Year I felt like I transported 30 years into the future and was seeing Midland on the stage. I know this whole look-a-like thing is getting old [pun intended] so I’ll try and let it go.
Ahhh Billy Ray. A strong host who really lived up to his duties and worked the crowd right through to the end. To those following along at home I recommend skipping to 1:51:08 where he just wouldn’t stick to his script. There are mullets and selfies and it is thoroughly entertaining!
If you listen closely between award announcements you might catch a little instrumental from 2019 CCMA Highest Selling Album of the Year recipient Keith Urban. The catchy Somebody Like You gets a bit of play, or the chords do anyways.
With performances from Tenille Townes, James Barker Band, Old Dominion, Dean Brody, the Hunter Brothers, Tebey, Morgan Wallen and more it was hard to pick a standout. But I did! For me it was the collaborations between Billy Ray and Johnny McGuire, Chevys & Fords; Lindsay Ell and High Valley, Single Man; and, Billy Ray and Terri Clarke, Achy Breaky Heart.
But if you only watch one performance of the night, I can’t recommend highly enough Meghan Patrick’s stripped back Wild as me performed with partner Mitchell Tenpenny. Cut to 22:21 to see them in action. Meghan may have been beaten out at this years CCMA’s by Tenille Townes but I’m still rating her top of my list. Plus she is also joining Dallas Smith in Brisbane this November for Hometown Fest – bring it on!
